[ OSCARS 2020 ] How satisfied is the audience with the nomination of the 2020 Academy Award?
Since the announcement of the 92nd Academy Award, many questions about the diversity in nominations are raising and the audience is again trying to belittle the Oscars.
Looking at the category of best director, no women are nominated and Greta Gerwig, the only woman to put herself in the nomination of best director in 2018 for the movie LADY BIRD has lost her seat for the direction of 2019 movie Little women. She was able to put her name on the list on 2018 Oscars which actually made a history- there had not been any female director for the last 10 years. But unfortunately, no women are able to stand on this year's nomination. It is recorded that for the last 92 years of Oscars there have been only 5 female nominations for best director and only one won by Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker in 2010.
Meanwhile, on this year's Golden Globes and Baftas, there were no female nominations in the same category. Many female actresses are sad knowing the fact that last year the industry had so many good female writers and directors than ever and still coming up against it is seem quite an obvious problem. They are hoping for some change. Looking at the diversity in the nomination for the list of best directors, the South Korean director Bong Joon Ho for the comedy thriller movie Parasite is nominated.
What is the condition of the acting category?
It is sad to know that there is only one non-white nominee in the list, Cynthia Erivo. She is listed on the best actress in a leading role in Harriet- a movie about the slave. Looking at last year's Oscar, it looked pretty fair that three of four of the non-white actors won Oscars for the acting category. Fourth won for the best performance. Ever since the #oscarssowhite hashtag started in the years 2015 and 2016, Oscar has been tackling with it but this year's nomination again brought disgrace among the audience. The Oscars has told that it has been taking steps to have a more membership in 2016, but many viewers and audiences are again hashtagging #OSCARSSOWHITE after 2020 Oscars Award announcement.
Hope Oscars have chosen the deserving once and may the deserving one winning the award.
