It has come to a decision that WhatsApp will not be functioning on millions of phones from February 1. Phones which support only the outdated operating system will no longer be able to run this app on their device. Android version 2.3.7 or older and iPhone IOs or older, will be affected by this update as they will not be compatible with the new updated version of WhatsApp. The Facebook app has withdrawn its support from the older version of Android and IOS and the reason behind this is a step taken to protect the security of its user.

However, many users will still be able to update their operating systems to continue running the messaging app.  WhatsApp which serves billions of users throughout the world is having trouble keeping users' information protected. They say it wasn't intended to affect the millions of users but to protect their accounts. But it's not the first time that the messaging app has stoped to work. Before the action taken to stop it working on an older version of IOS and Android, it had already stopped working on many other devices as well. Some dates when WhatsApp stopped working on older OS :

*On June 30, 2017, it stopped working on Nokia Symbian S60
*On December 31, 2017, it stopped working BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
*On December 31, 2018, it stopped working on Nokia S10
*On December 31, 201, it stopped working on Windows mobile
*On February 1, 2020, it stopped working on IOS 7 or older and Android 2.3.7 or older

Still, there is no need to worry if you have some important conversation on your app as you can export the messages to your new version of a mobile phone from your WhatsApp account.

WhatsApp was founded by Brian Acton and Jan Koum in 2009, who were the former employee of Yahoo. Then on February 19, 2014, Facebook announced that is was acquiring WhatsApp for the US $19 billion which was the largest acquisition of a venture in history.
