The patient was a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan, Hubei Province, where the virus was first discovered.
According to the World Health Organization, before arriving in the Philippines he appeared to have infected.

The Philippine Ministry of Health said the man traveled to the Philippines from Wuhan, via Hong Kong, with a 38-year-old Chinese woman who also tested positive for the virus last week.
Officials said he was taken to a hospital in the capital, Manila, after which he developed severe pneumonia.
According to the local newspaper, Rappler, Health Minister Francisco Duque III said the patient was "stable and showed signs of improvement", but his condition deteriorated rapidly within 24 hours.
"We are currently working with the Chinese embassy to ensure the dignified management of the remains according to national and international standards to contain the disease," Mr Duque saidThe man's death was confirmed shortly after the Philippines announced it would ban the arrival of any foreign travelers from China.

Authorities said that another 45 deaths were recorded in Hubei Province by the end of Saturday, bringing the number of deaths in the country to 304.
There were 2590 confirmed new infections across the country. State television quoted the National Health Commission as saying that the total number of infections in China now stands at 1,480.

Other countries, such as New Zealand, Russia, Japan, Pakistan, Italy, and Singapore, have also announced travel restrictions.
On Saturday, the Pentagon said it will provide housing for 1,000 people who may need to be quarantined after they arrive in the United States from abroad by February 29. Four military bases in California, Colorado, and Texas provide up to 250 rooms each.
