Recently a company named Clearview AI came across which is so able to recognize its user's identity and according to New York Times the company is supposed to have 3 billion images, removed from Facebook, youtube, and other social media. Now, it is said that more than 600 law enforcement agencies or companies use this.
Knowing this really raises concerns regarding our privacy: For instance, you are in a rally or participating in any protest and you upload a picture on any social media platform. Now by credible law enforcement, they can use the Clearview system and know your identity. So, there can be a huge issue regarding our privacy and identity. If you add your picture through any web on social media platforms like Facebook, twitter, youtube, Instagram, you are sure to be exposed and many companies these days are smart enough to know who you are by such a system.
So, what should we do to avoid ourselves from exposing and saving our privacy?
What you can do is turn off the facial recognition but still, companies like Clearview are able to view you. Meanwhile, trying to block Facebook and Google from knowing who you are is a step back to protect your privacy.
Here is how you do it:
- Open Facebook from any web and go to the settings.
- There you will find face recognition option- by this option, Facebook is able to tag you in any other picture that your friend posted.
- Then you will need to turn off the face recognition option.
- Open Google Photos on your PC.
- Go to the setting and find Group similars faces option.
- Now, drag the down arrow and turn off the face recognition option(face grouping).
